Be yourself

I cannot even tell you how often I tell myself or others or this blog to just be yourself. But you know sometimes I need a little extra reminder.
When it comes to unknown places and faces I tend to get intimidated by a crowd of people and the conversations and start freaking out about what to say or do (unimaginable I know - but it's the truth).
And then afterwards I think about all the things I could've said or I am disappointed in myself for not being completely myself.
Last week I took my own advice and decided that the next chance I get I will let go of everything that is holding me back and be me, funny wild and slightly over sharing at times.
Well I didn't have to wait for too long and a work event came up - the most dreaded place to practice what I preach as it tends to be my place of insecurity. But with a little push here and there I got up and walked up to people, had tons of fun, laughed, shared, connected and left when I knew everything was said. At the end of the day I was so happy and went to bed "proud" of myself. I thought about it a lot then and you know God can use you best when you are being you at your best. And believe me I don't want to miss out on any chance where God could use me just because of insecurities or fear.

Thursday Tunes

I love this weather right now and the coming of summer and all it holds. To me whenever summer is around everything kind of becomes quiet. I love summernights and sitting outside listening to the crickets and watching the stars rise.
Today I want to share a song with you which embodies all of this for me. The video is a bit on the cheesy side, but the song is amazing plus you get the lyrics with it.

Movie Monday

Happy Monday everyone. I did not plan on doing a Movie Monday but I have to mostly because I want to share some quotes with you.
On Saturday I watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Although I have to say that technically it is not my favorite movie I still think it is absolutely worth watching but more than that I think everybody should pick up the Narnia books again and read them because they are awesome.
I don't know exactly what it was on Saturday but some of the movie just got me in such a deep way I couldn't stop crying.
So I thought I'd share some of the quotes from the movie. They go without saying:

"Lucy Pevensie
: Will you come and visit us in our world?
Aslan: I shall be watching you always.
Lucy Pevensie: How?
Aslan: In your world, I have another name. You must learn to know me by it. That was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there."

Coriakin: "To defeat the darkness out there, you must defeat the darkness inside yourself. "

Edmund Pevensie: So, what was it like... when Aslan changed you back?
Eustace Clarence Scrubb: No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't do it myself. Then he came towards me. It sort of hurt, but... it was a good pain. You know, like when you pull a thorn from your foot.

Reepicheep: You know, extraordinary things happen to extraordinary people.

So good right? I could go on and elaborate but I don't because I think these quotes do speak to us in a very personal and very individual way.

Hide and Seek

I wonder if we are playing  hide and seek and I wonder who is hiding and who is seeking and when we are going to win this game.

Thursday Tunes

Well hello there! Today's Tunes are going to be a tad different and we are going to travel in time a little. Very often the music I share here is rather deep, emotional, poetic or just different but today we're going on a whole different level.
This is due to the fact that I had my very own little dance party (by myself!) yesterday night while doing the dishes after discovering an awesome playlist on spotify.
So I thought, hey why not share some of my favorites with you so you too can turn up the volume and bust a move in your living room, kitchen or wherever you fancy.
So here you go. They're all rather old songs, but so classic!

Dance on and xoxo

Movie Monday

Like I said, I did quite some catching up with movies lately and therefore you're getting a whole lot of Movie Mondays.
Let me start by saying that I was quite sceptical about watching War Horse. I had only seen the preview and thought it was pretty cheesy. I love horses... I just didn't know if I wanted to watch a movie with a horse as the main "act".
But when my friend Larissa promised me I would like it I gave it a try and was surprised. The movie is set in World War I and gives all kinds of snapshots of people, relationships, culture and struggle. The horse is the one leading you through all of these snapshots.
I really like the cinematography of the movie and the feeling it brought across. I didn't love the ending not in what it was but how it was done. It was the only moment where it got a little too cheesy for me not staying true to the overall attempt, but that's the only thing I would criticize.

Movie Monday

I got back from a trip to London yesterday and how fitting that I share these two amazing movies with you. I don't know why but the last 2 weeks I have somewhat been in a costume drama mood.
I had seen this movie before but I am so glad I re-watched Elizabeth because it is an amazing movie. Cate Blanchett: I have no words for how deep she takes the character.
Everything about this movie captivates you from the first moment of the movie until the very end. Seeing the journey of not only England but a young woman taking the throne. A must watch.
And I also finally got around watching Elizabeth The Golden Age. Yet again breathtaking and devastating. A  more aged queen and her struggle between being a woman, queen, a warrior, a friend and so many more things.
"It begins with a journey. You
                must cross an ocean.
Can you imagine - can you feel -
what it is to cross an ocean? For
weeks you see nothing but the
                horizon. All round you. Perfect,
and empty. Your ship is small -
tiny - a speck in such immensity.
You live with fear, in the grip
of fear - fear of storms, fear of
sickness on board, fear of the
                immensity. What if you never
                escape? How can you escape?
There's nowhere to go. So you
must drive your fear down, deep
into your belly, and study your
                charts, and watch your compass,
and pray for a fair wind - and
                hope.
Pure naked fragile hope, when all
your senses scream at you, Lost!
Lost! Imagine it. Day after day,
staring west, the rising sun on
your back, the setting sun in
               your eyes, hoping, hoping -
At first it's no more than a haze
on the horizon, the ghost of a
               haze, the pure line corrupted.
But clouds do that, and storms.
               So you watch, you watch.
               Then it's a smudge, a shadow on
the far water. For a day, for
               another day, the stain slowly
               spreads along the horizon, and
takes form - until on the third
day you let yourself believe. You
dare to whisper the word - land!
               Land. Life. Resurrection. The
true adventure. Coming out of the
               vast unknown, out of the
               immensity, into safe harbour at
last. That - that - is the New
               World." - Sir Walter Raleigh
